 This award honors an STFM member dedicated to building community, connection, and collaboration in behavioral science within primary care. The recipient should be an advocate for behavioral science in Family Medicine, having made contributions across research, program development, committee work, and/or mentorship.

Reach Out and Read

 I founded and oversee operations for Reach Out and Read at the Family Medicine Center and Mobile Health Unit. Reach Out and Read is a national organization that provides age appropriate, culturally sensitive free books to children from birth to age 5 as part of their well visits. This evidence based program improves vocabulary, love of reading and standardized test scores for children.
Community Outreach/Volunteering Sporting Club Jax Men's and Women's Team Physician

 As the Team Physician for the USL Sporting Club Jacksonville teams, Dr. Stephenson works closely with the team's athletic trainers, physical therapists, and coaching staff to make sure players are game ready. He also sees them in the outpatient and locker room settings to follow up on acute and chronic medical conditions.

 Operation HERO is our partnership with St. Paul’s Catholic School that provides students with bimonthly, interactive lessons on medical topics ranging from CPR and asthma to heart disease, diabetes, and cancer prevention. The program expands children’s exposure to healthcare careers while creating meaningful opportunities for residents to develop skills in public health outreach and education.

 A one-year longitudinal program through STFM, this selective program uses a "train the trainer" program. The goal of the program is to identify a "POCUS Champion" to develop a robust curriculum for both faculty and residents, in keeping with the most recent ABFM Procedure Competency requirements.

 Helped develop OB education business cards with QR codes to easier access pregnancy care information for our OB patients. Reviewed old pregnancy education packets and created re-formatted education pamphlets uploaded for each trimester and post partum. Improved efficiency as no longer need to print full packets for patients at new OB intakes as this information is now right at their fingertips.

 The Florida Family Medicine Learning Collaborative connects residency programs in order to further the impact of residencies on the training of Family Physicians through sharing of best practices, addressing common challenges, and fostering innovation in training and care delivery. I help facilitate monthly meetings and I was a co-contributor on a presentation made during the STFM meeting.

 The Ascension St. Vincent's Foundation offers an annual grant cycle through the Physicians Giving Society which is awarded to initiatives that will improve the patient care and strengthen teams. This project was awarded the maximum allowance of $10,000 for a train-the-trainer experience allowing the Family Medicine Faculty to participate in hands on training for point of care ultrasound.
Quality Improvement "Increasing Access to Primary Care"

 Participated in a group quality improvement project for FMC clinic to create improved access to care for patients. Included online survey used to evaluate clinic successes and areas for improvement. Project eventually led to development of “Adult Acute Care Clinic” for patients with urgent care related health problems.

 Retrospectively examined effects on post-partum blood transfusion rates after implementation of clinic wide 1st trimester ferritin screening and early treatment of iron deficiency with oral or IV iron supplementation.

 Continued validation previous diagnostic criteria for iron deficiency with or without anemia in obstetrical patients with CBC/indices and comparing it to 1st trimester ferritin screening. Added monitoring of implementation of clinic wide ferritin screening and beginning oral iron therapy vs IV iron infusion processes for those identified as iron deficient.

Resulted in implementation of clinic wide ferritin screening for all obstetrical patients due to our high risk population. Presented at DCMS conference and wont 2nd place overall post presentation.

 Group QI project with residents aimed to improved quality metric for Cervical Cancer Screening in our FMC clinic. Chart reviewed patients and updated last pap smear results in history sections to help document For those who were noted to be due for pap smears, notes were made to PCPs and in chart to schedule them for cervical cancer screening.
