Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Renee Alten was born and raised in Syracuse, New York. She completed her undergraduate education at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland where she majored in Political Science. Following undergrad she spent a gap year in Edinburgh, Scotland. Upon her return she earned her Juris Doctor from University of Massachusetts School of Law. Renee worked in the field of law for 15 years before she decided to change her career path and attend University of North Florida to obtain her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She joined St. Vincent’s Family Medicine Center in 2018 as a Behavioral Health Intern. Here, she discovered her passion for integrated care and fell in love with the supportive and welcoming environment at St. Vincent’s Family Medicine Center and became a full-time Clinician in 2019. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering at a local dog rescue, watching Syracuse basketball, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Obstetrics & Gynecology

David Lynn Miller MD, is a board-certified faculty physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was raised in Boaz, AL and holds undergraduate degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Molecular and Microbiology from Auburn University and University of Central Florida. He received his medical degree from University of South Florida in Tampa, FL, and completed residency at University of Florida Health in Jacksonville. His interests are in comprehensive obstetric and gynecology care. He provides management of health screenings, contraception, fibroids, abnormal bleeding, endometriosis, pelvic pain, PCOS, vaginal prolapse, and urinary incontinence. He has a special interest in minimally invasive surgeries and office procedures.

Dr. Miller has volunteered in the community for many years with Volunteers in Medicine and We Care. He enjoys spending time with his wife and their three boys and also indulges in a good book to unwind.

Internal Medicine

Dr. Narvel currently serves as part-time faculty with our program, leading our Geriatrics clinical experiences at Riverside Post Acute Rehab Center and at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Riverside. He has a distinguished medical education from the JJM Medical College in India, in addition to his Internal Medicine residency training in India and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Obstetrics & Gynecology

Jason Patzwald, DO is an experienced Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine who has made relevant contributions to women’s healthcare. In April 2007, Dr. Jason Patzwald graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Florida State University, and in May 2011, he was awarded a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a one-year internship and a 4-year residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, HI.

In addition to working actively in the women’s healthcare sector, Dr. Patzwald served in the US Military for over 10 years. He was a Staff Obstetrician/Gynecologist at Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital (Louisiana) and Marshfield Clinic Health System (Wisconsin). He also holds a teaching appointment as a Clinical Preceptor at Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kansas Health Science Center.

Dr. Jason Patzwald, DO has co-authored several medical publications, one of which is titled “Does Mid-Urethral Sling Surgery in the Treatment of Stress Urinary Incontinence affect weight changes in Women?”. He has made several oral and poster presentations, and his research paper titled “Correlation Between Trans-abdominal and Trans-vaginal Cervical Length in Low-Risk Patients” was awarded the best scientific paper on a clinical subject at Armed Forces District Meeting for ACOG in October 2013. He also received the “OBGYN Provider of the Year (2013-2014)” and “Best Resident Educator (2012-2013)” awards at Tripler Army Medical Center, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He belongs to several clinical/medical committees where he functions in different capacities.

His certifications include Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Intuitive Da Vinci Robotic Surgery Certification as Console Surgeon, and he is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Jason is professionally affiliated with the Florida Medical Society, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Family Medicine Hospitalist

Dr. Shahani was born in India and moved to the United States when he was 3 years old. His family relocated to the St. Augustine area when he was 12 years old and he has spent the majority of his time in the state of Florida. As a highschooler in St. Johns County, he started volunteering and shadowing at many hospitals in Northeast Florida. He attended the University of South Florida (Go Bulls!) for his undergraduate education and went to medical school at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. Dr. Shahani was drawn to St. Vincent's for the excellent training, positive team environment and the ability to give back to his local community. He is passionate about hospital medicine as well as patient safety and quality improvement. He is currently a full time hospitalist and on his off days enjoys spending time with his family.
