Residency Program Requirements
Applicant Criteria
Eligible candidates must meet the criteria established below.
The program director retains the prerogative of presenting an applicant who would not otherwise be eligible but whose qualifications merit consideration.
Residents are required to obtain a state medical license prior to completion of the residency program. Licensure Criteria for the State of Florida
Details are available at the State of Florida Department of Health.
Graduates anticipating licensure in states other than Florida must verify licensure requirements of each state to insure eligibility.
ACGME Requirements
Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME): Applicants with one of the following qualifications are eligible for appointment to accredited residency programs:
Graduates of medical schools in the U.S. and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and/or
Graduates of medical schools in the U.S. and Canada accredited by the American Osteopathic Association and/or
Graduates of medical schools outside the U.S. and Canada who meet one of the following qualifications:
Have a current valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and/or
Have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. licensing jurisdiction
Program Requirements
Must have recent medical training or practice experience
Must have completed medical school within the past two years or
Must have been trained in an accredited internship or residency program within the past year or
Must have been in active medical practice within the past year
Must be fluent in written and spoken English
Must have passed Step 1 and 2 at the time of rank list submission
U.S. Graduates
Must be a graduate of an allopathic/osteopathic medical school or approved by an accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education
International Graduates
Must hold a valid certificate issued by the Education Commission on Foreign Medical Graduates
Must be a graduate of an foreign medical school in good standing with the World Health Organization
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. We do not currently sponsor work visas.
Application Review Process
At Ascension St. Vincent’s Family Medicine Residency, we value the whole applicant. Our holistic review process looks beyond test scores, focusing on personal attributes, academic/clinical experiences, lived experiences, and commitment to family medicine.
We participate in the AAMC/ERAS Preference Signaling process, but signals are never used in the ranking process. This ensures every applicant is reviewed fairly and comprehensively.
Interview Information
Invitations: Interview invitations will begin going out in mid-September as application reviews are completed.
Format: All interviews will be held virtually to promote and equitable process for all of our candidates.
Scheduling: Invited applicants will have a minimum of 48 hours to respond and choose from available interview times. Sufficient slots will be available for all invited candidates.
Interviews will be held between October 14, 2024 – December 19, 2024
All interviews will be hosted on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings with limited additional Thursday afternoon sessions to accommodate other time zones and student rotation schedules.
Resident Q&A Sessions: The Sunday evening prior to each interview week, applicants will be invited to join a casual virtual Q&A with our residents. This is an opportunity to connect, ask questions, and learn more about our program culture
Campus Tours & Second Looks
After completing a virtual interview, applicants may choose to schedule an optional in-person Campus Site Visit at their discretion.
Visits will be offered on Fridays between November 22, 2024, and January 31, 2025.
These visits are designed solely to help applicants learn more about our program and facilities.
They are not evaluative and will have no impact on scoring or ranking, in full compliance with NRMP rules.
